Heading down the wrong road

Do you ever actually see yourself heading down the wrong path? You want to administer the brakes and yet you can’t seem to stop yourself? Maybe it’s a vice you can’t seem to get away from. Cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, chocolate, sex, gambling, it maybe all of the above? Maybe you tried to quit your vice before and you failed? Maybe you succeeded in not walking down the path for awhile and went back?
When you see yourself skipping back into your old habits how can you stop yourself?

Stop, sit down in the middle of that road, and take a l-o-n-g look around you. See what the attractions are, feel them, really feel them, and decide if they are still a fit or simply a comfort like mac n cheese on a cold day. We all love mac n cheese, but a daily diet of it would not be good, nor would we like it much after a few days, let alone weeks. And too when you look around and find the things you do like, set them aside from the heap, and look at each one as if a sudden treasure once lost and found again. Put those in your pocket and take them home while leaving the rest by the side of the road. Be sure and celebrate with some mac n cheese.

I know it was just an example but it made me laugh, considering I used to eat mac and cheese every single day. My mom had to sit me down one night and say Only every other day from now on and I thought it was the end of the world.
